Location and Transportation

Highways
Interstates I-20, I-285, and I-75 are just minutes away from Paulding County, making all of the metro Atlanta and regional resources readily accessible. With the completion of Highway 278 to Camp Creek Parkway, a drive to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport can be completed within 45 minutes. The four lane of Highway 120, along with intersection improvements to Highway 61 and 92, have made travel throughout the county more efficient and direct than ever before. Further, planned improvements to Highway 61 and Highway 92 will make the county more accessible to I-20, I-285, and I-75.

Airports
With its proximity to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (a direct, 45-minute drive), Paulding County is ideally located within a two-hour flight of 80% of the U.S. population. Additionally, Paulding County is home to a new general aviation airport, Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport (KPUJ), the first jet-capable airport to be built in Georgia in more than 30 years. It is designed to help relieve aviation capacity issues throughout metro Atlanta and Northwest Georgia. This airport and its surrounding potential development areas have already begun to stimulate significant economic development projects in Paulding County.

Ports
Paulding County is easily accessible by rail or motor transport to the Eastern Seaboard ports of Savannah, GA (279 miles), or Charleston, SC (353 miles), and to the public barge dock at Columbus, GA (124 miles). Specializing in the handling of container, reefer, breakbulk and RoRo cargoes, the Port of Savannah is home to the largest single-terminal container facility of its kind in North America, comprised of two modern, deepwater terminals and moving millions of tons of containerized cargo annually. The Port of Charleston is the sixth largest U.S. container port by cargo value – $61 billion in goods move through the port annually. The Port of Columbus is a 14-acre inland barge operation specializing in transporting liquid bulk down the Chattahoochee River (9 foot channel depth), with convenient access to the Gulf of Mexico via the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint Waterway.

Railroads
The transportation of goods to any destination in the nation is facilitated by Paulding’s proximity to Norfolk Southern’s intermodal rail facilities in nearby Austell (seven miles) and CSX’ piggyback facilities (30 miles) in downtown Atlanta. A new rail-served industrial park is in progress on Bill Carruth Parkway in Hiram.
